Q. How do you like the new career of the ampel man as a cult figure and design product?
A. I have to admit that when I met Markus Heckhausen in 1996 with his first ampel man Product I was rather sceptical.
Today, however, I believe that these products are the only thing that helped keep the ampel man alive and still a leading figure on the streets.
I am very pleased that the ampel man is now not only known in Berlin, but has become popular all over the world as a product with high significance.
Q. You have close contact to MAKE Design. How do you cooperate with them and are you involved in the product creating process?
A. Shortly after I met Markus Heckhausen we developed ‘the Book of the ampel man’ together.
This work was very complex and elaborate but proved to be productive.
Thereafter we worked together when it came to matters with regard to the press and the exhibition of the 40 year existence of the ampel man, or at signature sessions.
I am always informed about any new products, and if I was ever not informed about something, I have always found understanding.
I would never support any type of political commercials using the ampel man seeing as it is not a political symbol and should remain that way.
