Checkpoint Charlie was the most famous Berlin border crossing: after the building of the Berlin Wall in 1961, it was arranged to record the surrender of the Allied military personnel and foreign diplomats. In 1990, the control point was solemnly dismantled. Since then one can marvel at it in the Allied Museum Berlin.
- In 1986, two East Berliners successfully escaped to the West. They crossed the barriers at Checkpoint Charlie with a gravel truck.
